Brighton High School Musical Theater first in Michigan to perform “Nice Work If You Can Get It”, March 20 through 29, 2015

Brighton High School’s Musical Theater program will be the first theatre troupe of any kind in Michigan to perform the spectacular Tony Award winning new musical “Nice Work If You Can Get It” at the Brighton Center for the Performing Arts, March 20-29. Gorgeous songs, brilliant costumes, snappy dancing, and some of the magical staging audiences have come to expect from Brighton High School’s Musical Theater program will undoubtedly captivate audiences in this hilarious, romantic, musical comedy.

On the heels of selling out multiple performances of each of its last five productions, including selling all of the available seats for 2014’s “Grease”, Brighton High School Musical Theater is returning to the Roaring 20’s, the era of prohibition, bootlegging, flappers, jazz, and fantastic dancing. “Nice Work If You Can Get It”, on stage at the Brighton Center for the Performing Arts for seven shows from March 20 to March 29. This laugh-a-minute romance classic, romantic tale of high schoolers falling in love, breaking up, making up, and growing up will be brought to life with the musical and stage magic audiences expect from Brighton High School’s heralded musical theater program.

Brighton’s continued success with its audiences, productions, and student talent development garnered it the opportunity to be the first in Michigan to produce “Nice Work…” when rights became available last year. This is the second time that Brighton High School Musical Theater has been the first in Michigan to produce a newly licensed work, following the highly successful production of “Legally Blonde: The Musical” in 2012. Producer, director, and choreographer Michelle Holowicki, a history and economics teacher at Brighton High School, said, “After seeing “Nice Work If You Can Get It” on Broadway, we knew that it would be such a fun show for our students and our audiences. At the same time, it is an opportunity for our students to learn more about Prohibition in American history and the growth and influence of American song and musical theater in the early Twentieth Century. It’s not just a great show, it’s an extra pedagogical moment, and it’s an honor that we have been entrusted with it first.”

Join us for this remarkable collaboration of youth and community as we share laughter, romance, and so many incredible Gershwin songs in the classic musical, “Nice Work If You Can Get It”, live on stage at the Brighton Center for Performing Arts.
